Will you be offering PYO this year?
Yes, we are introducing various social distancing measures to allow us to open and keep you safe when visiting.
What social distancing measures are in place?
1. Allocated time slots
This year you will have to purchase a fruit voucher and book a time slot (LINK) in order to enter our pick your own fields. This allows us to reduce the number of people arriving at any one time as well as reducing the amount of people in the fields. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER WITHOUT A FRUIT VOUCHER. (The fruit voucher incudes entry, a container and £3 off total fruit picked)
2. One way system
There will be a lot of signage this year so please ensure you follow instructions. The general setup will encourage you to head up the rows as you enter and return down the rows in an adjacent block. We encourage you to walk as far up the row as possible before you start to pick to avoid a backlog.
3. Row closure
We will close alternate rows allowing our customers to maintain more than the 2m apart when picking.
4. Customer compliance
We rely heavily on our customers being sensible and conscientious in observing social distancing when queuing, picking and paying. If you are accompanied by children, you must keep them with you at all times.
We will have a handwashing station available to all customers before entering the fields. Should you wish to avoid queuing for this please bring your own alcohol gel.
How do the fruit vouchers work?
The fruit vouchers will only allow you to pick on the day and at the time specified on the voucher. They will allow us to regulate how many people are in the fields at any one time. We have had to charge for the vouchers to cover the administration costs and to discourage people from not turning up. You will need to present your voucher in order to gain access to the fields and again when you bring your fruit for weighing and paying. You can then reclaim £3 of the cost of the fruit picked (minimum spend is £3)
1 Person (£4)
- Entrance to the Pick Your Own Fields for 30 Minutes

What are the opening hours?
We will be open from 9-5 from Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays. BUT this may change according to weather or crop availability. We will update our social media platforms, website and newsletter before any alterations are made.
What can I pick?
Available fruits are listed on the blackboard by the entrance. If a fruit is not listed you should not pick it – they may not be ripe yet, or we may simply not offer Pick Your Own for some crops (e.g.apples). Read our Latest News for the current situation or join our email news service and we will let you know when the season starts and keep you up to date during the course of the season.
Where can I find the various crops?
Please download our map.
There will also be signposts around the pick your own fields.
Please ensure you do not walk past any No Entry signs or roped off areas as we are a working farm and machinery will be operating.
Can we use our own containers?
This year we will only accept containers previously purchased from Lathcoats Farm (as we will know what to deduct from the price of your fruit). YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE ANY OTHER CONTAINERS TO AVOID INCREASED RISK OF CONTAMINATION.
Do you supply containers?
Yes, as part of your fruit voucher you will be given a container. You will also be able to purchase more containers should you wish to. You can re-use these containers on subsequent visits
Can we eat fruit while we pick?
No. Many Pick Your Own farms have closed because of loss of fruit. The fruit is yours to eat once you have paid for it.
Do I have to pay for all I pick?
Yes. A full container will cost between £10-£14.
What is the best way to pick a strawberry?
For maximum shelf life try to avoid handling the red flesh. Instead, pinch the stalk off between your thumbnail and forefinger. Leave the stalks in until just before serving. As with all fruits, pick only ripe ones – they taste better! View our Picking Tips for more PYO information.
What’s the best way to store the fruit I pick?
The Storing and freezing website may contain information of interest to PYO customers.
Can we go anywhere?
No, some areas are off limits – especially the glasshouse and tunnels where machinery is stored. For your health and safety, please keep out. The apple orchards are also off limits (we do not offer PYO apples) and please remember this is a farm and the ground may be uneven in places, so take care and watch your footing.
Can we have a picnic?
Picnics are not allowed in the Pick Your Own fields. We will assess whether we can open a field away from the Pick Your Own area in line with government advice.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome in the car parking area but not allowed in the pick your own fields.
Do you accept coach parties?
No. Unfortunately we don’t have the car parking space or the facilities.
