Lathcoats Farm Scarecrow Competition 2023 - SIGN UP HERE

Make a scarecrow - yourself, as a family, as a group or class - and bring it to the farm by 5pm on Friday 20th October and you could win an animal experience with All Things Alpaca* or Lathcoats Vouchers to treat yourself! *The animal experience offered will depend on the age of the winning entrants.

Our theme is 'Celebrating Autumn'

Autumn is a time of harvest, hedgrerow fruits, acorns, conkers and chestnuts. Wonderful colours, animals and birds arriving, leaving and preparing to hibernate, darker nights and colder weather - but please use your imagination and creativity!

We want this to be something that anyone can have a go at, using low cost, recycled and reused materials just as farmers making scarecrows have always done. They should also ideally be weather resistant at least!

There are some good ideas to get you started here:

Competition Day is on the 21st October 2023 - attendance is not necessary and winners will be contacted after judging. If you wish to attend an apple day ticket is required to enter the farm on this day - if you are unable to purchase one please get in touch at events@eapples.co.uk.

Scarecrows must be delivered to the farm between 9am and 5pm from Monday 16th October to Friday 20th October. If you are unable to make it during these times please get in touch at events@eapples.co.uk.

The scarecrows will remain on display until the 31st October 2023 - we will then keep hold of them for a week should you wish to collect during our opening hours, after which they will be recycled!

Rules

Scarecrows must be at least 1m tall.

They can be freestanding or on a support. We will have stakes available.

Scarecrows should be brought to the farm shop during opening hours (9-5 Monday to Saturday) and no later than 20th October 2023 at 5pm.

A donation of £1 per entry is requested which Lathcoats Farm will match. All entry fees will be donated to The Country Trust registered charity number 1122103.

Judging will be at the start of Apple Day. Scarecrows will be displayed in the polytunnel next to the Pumpkin Patch from Apple Day until Halloween.

Judges will choose one entry as the winner. The entrants will be awarded an animal experience depending on the ages of those involved, and a Lathcoats voucher. Highly commended certificates will also be awarded.

Our theme is the Celebrating Autumn! Please make your scarecrow fun, interesting, a talking point but it must be in good taste and should not be frightening. Judges reserve the right not to display anything which they consider contravenes this guidance.

Scarecrows should be built from scratch by entrants with no mannequins or pre moulded face masks permitted.

If you have any queries or concerns please send us an email at events@eapples.co.uk.
