Apple Day 2020
Unfortunately we will not be able to run Apple Day at Lathcoats Farm in the same way this year as it usually encourages large numbers of people which we won't be able to safely distance. Therefore we have decided to spread the celebration of all things apples out over the course of a fortnight. With seated apple and apple juice tasting sessions, PYO apples and most of our 40 vareities of apples to try in the farm shop. Check back here or keep up to date via Facebook or our mailing list.
Here is last years blurb to get an idea of what will be on offer:
Apple Day this year will be on Saturday 19th October, from 10-4pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. See our poster for Apple Day Feel free to print and put on display!
This year sample the delights of 40 varieties of English apples grown in our orchards, taste our single variety apple juices and our cider. Explore food from around the region with our farmers' and producers' market comprising the wonderful people who supply our farm shop with delicious, high quality food all year round, from bread to pies and chocolate!
Enjoy our mini Octoberfest in the Packing Shed with cider, gin cocktails and local beers from around Essex. Fantastic locally produced musicians David and James Delarre will be weaving their musical magic throughout the day.
There'll be masses to keep the children entertained from tractors (large and small) to craft, donkey rides, old fashioned fairground rides and PYO pumpkins.
This year in a change from recent years we will be showcasing the shortlisted entries from our first Apple Day Photographic Competition. Our themes are Harvest, and Nature in Autumn and winners in the over and under 18 categories, using smartphones/tablets or cameras will be announced at 3pm on Apple Day.
Lottie Taylor, Lathcoats own photographer will be Chair of Judges and will be joined by Ben Sell, Chair of Essex Young Farmers and Richard Yates from Essex Wildlife Trust. We are very grateful to Camera World Chelmsford and Blue Sky Printing Chelmsford for the very generous prizes they have given.
