Apple Day 2017 will be on Saturday 21st October from 10am-4pm. Plans are in full swing with lots of our suppliers planning to attend our Food Producers' Market, including some new to the farm shop this year. Our main apple harvest is complete but some of our more unusual varieties are still to be harvested ready for Apple Day. Don't miss our Apple Pie and Apple Cake baking competition sponsored by Marriages, Chelmsford's own Master Millers. We have Adult and Junior categories and it's a great chance to have a go, even if you are new to baking. Entries need to be with us by 11am on the day and full details will be available in the shop and on the website soon.
Please note that there is no parking at Abercorn Garden Centre this year. The number 42 bus stops right outside the farm and cyclists and walkers are very welcome. Our imited parking may involve a short walk along a farm track.
Apple Day Events include:
Apple tasting (40 varieties grown on our farm)
Apple juice tasting (our own apples)
Regional food producers' market
Essex Wildlife Trust activity marquee
Drop in art and craft workshop
Farm shop full of local produce
Free Admission but lots of great local produce to buy.
We were recently visited by a group or artists engaged in a project called A is For Apple, you can read all about the project here:
One of the artists, Gen Doy, celebrating the old tradition of singing and saying incantations to the trees to ensure a good harvest in the coming year, wrote a wassailing song for us.
