Lathcoats Apple Day Saturday Oct 21st

This Saturday, 21st October we will be celebrating apples in all their wonderful diversity from 10am-4pm. Plans are in full swing with eight single variety juices (all grown in our orchards of course) expected back from the pressers any minute now, around 40 varieties of apple picked and ready to taste and sixteen of our suppliers planning to attend our Food Producers' Market. Don't miss our Apple Pie and Apple Cake baking competition sponsored by Marriages, Chelmsford's own Master Millers. We have Adult and Junior categories, and even a special Gluten Free category and it's a great chance to have a go, even if you are new to baking. Entries can be dropped off on Friday 20th between 9am and 6pm, or by 11am on the day. We are delighted to announce that Councillor John Aldridge, Chair of Essex County Council, and his wife Christine will be our judges this year, along with Gillian Wraw, a professional baker focusing on special dietary needs. Full details are available in the shop and on the website.

We'll also have donkey rides, woodturning, children's craft workshops, the Essex Wildlife Trust, tractors large and small, swing boats and more, and entry is free.

We think it's a vintage year for apples, full of dramatic colour and great eating quality, and an impressive quantity has been harvested too. So please come and join the celebrations - but remember to dress for the farm!

Please note that there is NO parking at Abercorn Garden Centre this year. The number 42 bus stops right outside the farm and cyclists and walkers are very welcome. Our limited parking may involve a short walk along a farm track.
