2012 - Information
Our Rent a Tree scheme does not suit everybody so please take a moment to
read the notes below before deciding to go ahead.
BENEFITS:
• Unparalleled freshness
• The ultimate in traceability
• See your crop develop over the season (weekends only)
• A valuable educational experience for young children
• Something the whole family can share
• The fun of picking your own apples
RISKS:
• The weather: a dry summer can mean the apples stay small or even
fall off
• The weather: a very hot summer can scorch the apples
• The weather: hail storms can seriously damage the apples
• The weather: sometimes conditions mean the apples don't store or
keep well
By renting a tree you are buying into these risks and we can offer NO GUARANTEE
regarding YIELD or QUALITY
If you decide to rent, please note the following:
• On the registration form please put the name and full contact details
(email address highly desirable) of the PERSON WHO WILL PICK THE APPLES.
This may be you or the gift recipient if you are giving Rent a Tree as a
present.
• You (or the gift recipient) will only receive notification of the
whereabouts of the tree in early August when the crop has settled down.
You can view your crop at weekends during shop hours.
• You must decide when to come and pick your apples - you might want
to pick them a little early if you like them crunchy and tart or a little
later if you like them a bit more mellow. Picking time for bramley is usually
early September, for cox it is usually early October BUT this can vary by
as much as 2 weeks as it did in 2011. The best way to judge is to come and
pick an apple and try it. If you live too far away for this to be practical
please email me and I will do my best to advise. If you leave it too late
to pick the fruit will spoil or fall off. As picking time approaches I will
post a reminder on www.eapples.co.uk and on our Facebook page and I will
also email everyone who has signed up to our email list but we will not
contact you individually to remind you to pick.
• When you come to pick (which should be during shop hours), call
at the shop to let us know you are wanting to pick. Bags are available from
the shop.
• Don't try and store your fruit for a long time: eat, share, process,
cook or freeze. In some seasons wastage can be high if you try to keep them
too long.
• If you are giving Rent a Tree as a gift make sure you draw the recipient's
attention to the above information which they will find duplicated on their
gift certificate.
